Paint By Emotion:
A Study of the Impact of Color on Emotion
acrylic, oil, watercolor, tempera, color, research
These sunflower paintings are part of a big picture--one that combines art and psychology. Completed as part of the requirements for my honors thesis, these paintings required something of me I'm not typically inclined to: not using
mixed-media technique and extreme repetition.
This research project intended to explore the connection between color and emotion. A two-study research project investigated the relationships between art-making and the emotional color response. Both studies sought to identify the similarities between people with near-diversities, such as autism, and people without.

The second study (the one including the sunflowers you see here) required participants to record their emotional responses to twenty-four monochromatic sunflowers painted with four different mediums.
This study sought to identify the differences in emotional reactions to various painting mediums.
